    Ultrasound
High frequency sound waves are used to produce images of the interior of the human body. These images are displayed on a TV monitor and can then be transferred to paper or photographic film

Ultrasound scanning is used to help monitor and diagnose conditions in many parts of the body, including the kidneys, liver and heart. It is often used to examine conditions affecting the organs in a woman's pelvis - the uterus, Fallopian tubes and ovaries. Ultrasound scanning is not dangerous and has no known side effects, so it is safe to use during pregnancy.
