    Dexa scanning
The bone densitometry scan (DXA) measures bone density(strength). The procedure involves lying on a table for a few minutes while the scan is taken. The scan results will tell us how strong your bones are 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 suffer from a condition called osteoporosis where the bones are less strong and more likely to break by having a bone scan you can find out if you have this condition.

The bone scanner used radiation to produce an image of the bones, however the dose of radiation used is very low (much lower than a normal x ray). The risk of radiation exposure from a DXA bone scanner is low compared with the benefits that the information provided gives.
